It’s easy to be underestimated isn’t it? People assume so many things about us from the outside. They calculate our value, our usefulness, our ability to perform, our attractiveness, our worth. And yet God sees way past all that.
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.” - Matthew 13:44
In this parable, Jesus shows us the joy of discovering something beautiful and hidden. Whatever it was that the man found, it was worth so much more than the cost of all his possessions! Great treasure hidden inside the very ordinary earth and soil of an underestimated field.
This must be how God the Father thinks of us! The Bible says that He sees our hearts where everyone else can’t get past our outward appearances. And then, looking at your heart with all the joy in His, He paid the very highest cost to make sure that you would belong to Him. You are that treasure.
I wonder what treasure you see? I wonder whether we too can ask God to help us see the great treasures in each other? Today, be on the lookout for the kingdom-gold in those around you, and in you. You might just see something incredible.
