Some scientists believe that the dinosaurs were wiped out by a comet striking the Earth some 65 million years ago. Others believe that as the climate changed, those scaly reptiles slowly adapted into birds. Some people wonder whether some of the dinosaurs are still here and we just call them things like crocodiles, armadillos and tortoises! It’s possible that we’ll never know for sure.
In a way though, I don’t think it really matters. It’s a bit late to do anything about it. And we can get lost trying to unpick history at the expense of the present, especially when it comes to our own personal history. Look at what God says about things from the past...
“Behold, the former things have come to pass,
and new things I now declare;
before they spring forth
I tell you of them.” - Isaiah 42:9
We can’t change history anymore than we can bring the dinosaurs back! But the Bible teaches us instead, to fix our eyes on what’s ahead, so that we can be hopeful for the future.
Today there might be things in your past you find it difficult to let go of. What are those old dinosaurs? Let the Lord declare new things as those old fossils grow further and further into history. Allow Him to tell you about what his hopes are for you, while he makes you into a new creation ready for this season. Dinosaurs? Pah! You don’t need them; they are so yesterday.
