breathing room

Jesus was exceptional at creating breathing room in his diary. In Mark 1 we see just how busy He is, teaching and healing the sick. And yet, He knows exactly how to build in margins, how to refuel, how to relax into that space.

“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed”  - Mark 1:36

It’s really important not to allow our load to be greater than our limits. Sometimes we say yes to so many things that the margins in our calendars disappear. Before long we feel as though we’re running on empty. Of course, time is limited: saying yes to one thing is really saying no to something else.

Here Jesus shows us how to make the first thing the first thing - He prioritises time with Father over everything else in His day. He gets up early, changes His context and finds a place where the rest of the world can’t find Him. He refuses to let his output-calling bleed into his input-time.

Whatever we’ve planned for today, let’s build in some unmovable breathing room. Nobody can run at 100% all the time, and the world needs the best version of you there is.
