Note: Recently, I've been contributing to the daily devotions for The Turning app. The devotions on the app get refreshed every day, so I'm going to post the published ones here where they won't disappear. This is the first one...
Asking for help
Wise people know that it’s not a sign of weakness to ask for help. As Christians we sometimes fall into the pattern of asking God for help (which is a good thing to do), and then rejecting help from other people (which might have been God’s way of answering our prayer in the first place). Many times I’ve struggled with a thing because I was too independent or too proud to admit I needed anyone else.
“Plans fail for lack of counsel,
but with many advisors they succeed.” - Proverbs 15:22
Life, in all its complexity is a team sport; we’re in this together, as friends, families, colleagues, bands-of-brothers, sisterhoods, church. There are some things we just won’t succeed at without each other. And it really is okay to ask for help. Don’t let pride convince you otherwise.
Whatever decisions you might be facing today, whatever plans are in your heart, why not find ‘advisors’? Choose wisely though - you might need friends who can see through the emotional mist and challenge you, if you need it.
The chances are too that someday your cadre of advisors might need your help too, and they’ll be much more likely to seek you out! Don’t be afraid to ask; it might just be that God puts those people there for a reason.
